Visit to Glyndebourne
October 2012
We have
organized a three day trip to include a
visit to Glyndebourne in October when
productions are likely to be Mozart's
Marriage of Figaro and Dvorak's
Rusalka. The ticket prices are
to be confirmed but last year’s tickets were
£60.
Day 1
We depart from our designated pick up
points and en route to Brighton we stop at
the Calke Abbey in Derbyshire. We will
have free time here for lunch. Afterwards
we travel to the Legacy White Heart Hotel
(or similar), where we
stay 2 nights on a half board basis.
Day 2
Our Blue Badge
guide meets us at our hotel this morning
and accompanies us on our full day
excursion. We firstly visit Charleston
House. Charleston, the home of the artists
Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell (sister of
Virginia Woolf), became the country
meeting place for the group of writers,
artists and intellectuals known as the
Bloomsbury Group. We continue to Anne of
Cleves House. Anne of Cleves House formed
part of her divorce settlement from Henry
VIII in 1541, although she never actually
lived there. The 16th century timber
framed Wealden hall house contains wide
ranging collections of Sussex interest.
Tonight we visit Glyndebourne for the
opera.
Day 3
En route home we
visit the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.
Founded in 1683, the Ashmolean is
Britain’s first public museum and home to
the University of Oxford’s world class
collection of art and archaeology. We can
choose to take lunch in the Museum or
elsewhere, as the Museum is in the centre
of the city. We will have free time prior
to travelling back to our original pick up
points.
The price has yet to be determined, but
is likely to be in the region of £270
per person in shared rooms with a
supplement for single occupancy, with a
small number of single rooms also
available. These prices exclude
admission to Glyndebourne, other places
of interest and gratuities. Entry
to the Ashmolean Museum is free.
